Each month we invite patrons to Meet the Staff. For June we introduce Katie G., one of our new Circulation Assistants and future world-traveler. We are very lucky she joined us this year. When you see her, be sure and share one of your favorite things to do in O’Fallon.
Finding the O’Fallon Public Library was one of the luckiest experiences I’ve come across. I’m new to O’Fallon, and grew up in (the much smaller town) Roxana. I moved here in the fall of 2018, with my boyfriend Liam. I hadn’t even thought about applying at a library here, but came across the open position and couldn’t resist applying. I’ve always had a love for libraries, and reading, and have always thought it would be lovely to work in one.

I went to school for psychology, and have a degree in applied arts. As of right now, I’m debating my next move with my schooling, but getting my masters in library science (MLIS) is something I’m considering. I started at OFPL in March of 2019, and originally applied to fill a page position, but moved to a position at the circulation desk. While paging was great, and taught me a lot about our shelves, I love helping and talking with our patrons. Fun fact, my first week starting here I set off an alarm. I was absolutely mortified! I’m so glad we have a helpful and friendly staff at OFPL, because I can be a klutz!
When I’m not at work, I like to read, play video games, and adventure! Like I said before, I’m new to the area, and love to find all the hidden jewels in O’Fallon. I’ve heard that Sweet Katie Bee’s and Wood Bakery are phenomenal and are next on my list! When it comes to books, I don’t generally have favorites, but right now I’m really interested in reading best-selling works from other countries, and I enjoy reading biographies. If I had to recommend a book that I really loved, I’d definitely recommend In Order to Live written by Yeonmi Park.
When it comes to music, I like listening to artists like Vampire Weekend, Childish Gambino, and Two Door Cinema Club.
Father of the Bride Awaken My Soul Gameshow
I grew up with an older brother, so that meant hanging out with him consisted of playing video games. I’m honestly glad I did, because I still have a love for gaming now. Some of my favorite titles/series are The Legend of Zelda, Elder Scrolls, Super Smash Bros, and Kingdom Hearts.
One of the biggest things on my bucket list is travel. I feel like I need to see the world before I inevitably leave it. I want to go East, and visit countries in Asia like Singapore, Thailand, and Japan, and eat all of their delicious food. I want to visit Iceland and see the Northern Lights. I want to see the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. Conveniently, we also have tons of books on travel at the library. So when and if I do decide to go on a trip, I will know where to research it!
I’m very grateful for the place I am in in my life right now. I have my wonderful family that’s always around to support me, and Liam who’s always there to let me know he’s proud of me. I finally found a job that I really love. I feel like I finally found my place at the library, and I’m so appreciative for the wonderful staff that I’m surrounded by.
