If you’ve been to the Library this week, you’ve surely noticed the gorgeous new potted plants at the entrance.

Director Molly Scanlan said in this week’s O’Fallon Weekly that the arrangements were designed by Sarah Burton from the Parks Department.

They certainly are a festive and welcoming addition to the entryway.

Thanks to Sarah for the touch of nature.

Molly also reminded patrons who use Overdrive for ebooks that there is still time to enjoy the free access to The Girl with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke.  This is part of the Big Library Read that began October 1 and goes through Monday, October 15. The Big Library Read is a worldwide digital version of a local book club, the program is free with your OFPL library card.

A Credit and Money Management Workshop will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Molly said.  In this workshop, participants learn the basics of making a budget, how to read a credit report and what they can do to correct errors that may negatively affect their credit rating. The workshop also covers the participant’s rights as a consumer and helps them understand how they can make the most of them.

trick or treats

Molly also said, “Mark your calendars for a special Candyland inspired Trick or Treat at the Library on Friday, October 26th from 5:00-8:00 PM.”

Small pumpkin painting, mask decorating, and a photo wall with props are all part of the fun in this 3-hour event!

Spider rings and temporary tattoos will be available for non-candy trick or treaters!

Sign-up is encouraged to help gauge numbers for treats!

On a serious note, Molly said that reading for just six minutes a day can help reduce the symptoms of depression!  O’Fallon residents are encouraged to stop by the Library and sign up for a card if you don’t have one. She said, “We would be honored to meet you!  The Library has so much to offer our residents.”

If you are new in town, we have many opportunities to meet people. For example, we have multiple book clubs such as Books & Brew and the Library Book Club.  Also, the O’Fallon Writing Group is meeting this Saturday, October 13, at 10:30 AM.
