Feathers1In this week’s O’Fallon Weekly column, Youth Services Manager, Teri Rankin, invites patrons to write messages of gratitude on paper feathers and to the turkey cut-out as a prelude to Thanksgiving.  And we have plenty to be thankful for here at the Library – especially all the fun events.

For example, teens 12-to-18 years old can make some thermochromic slime that changes colors when touched.  Supplies are provided for this DIY, Friday, November 10, 2-4 PM.  To sign up and for more information visit our website.

School is out Friday in honor of Veteran’s Day Saturday.  The Library will be open, but Teri speaks for all of us when she said, “we pay tribute to the men and women in our community and throughout the world who seek to bring peace and offer protection throughout the world.  We honor those who have served and continue to serve.

Also on Saturday, we welcome local children’s author, Catherine Roseberry, who will share her latest book, There’s a Monkey in the Bathroom.  Roseberry will discuss writing the poetry and artist George Gasparich will discuss his illustrations for the book.  Join us for the fun activities and refreshments from 1-2 PM, November 11.  Click here for more information.

If you’ve got a desire to write he O’Fallon Writing Group meets 10:30-Noon, Saturday, November 11.  Adults are invited to join us.  The group welcomes beginning writers, published authors, and everyone in between.  Bring your journal, laptop, or loose leaf paper and allow yourself the time to write.  No registration is necessary, but you can find more information here.

Then put on that superhero costume, and join us November 18 for DC Comics Justice League Day.  Make a superhero craft, then tell us about your favorite super power and you’ll be entered in a drawing for one of the following titles:  Secret Hero Society: Study Hall of Justice (ages 8-12), Step into Reading Level 3, DC Super Girls: Welcome to Super Hero High! (ages 5-8) or Teen Titans Go! (ages 5-8).

Looking ahead, on Saturday, December 9, at 9:30 AM, Katherine Murray is back by popular demand to continue her discussion, Self Publishing for Beginners.  Murray will present a basic primer and checklist on self-publishing, as well as a few tips and tricks learned from experience.  Space is limited, so please register here or call (618) 632-3783.

Teri echoed the gratitude we all have for our patrons.  “We love swapping thoughts about books and authors and sharing stories with you.  Thank you for using the library,” she said.

Teri also reminded patrons that the library can save you money on entertainment; just check out our movies, games, Roku’s, and Nooks, as well as the many magazines available through our website.

Finally, we are thankful for the O’Fallon Weekly for giving us space to share Library news and events with you – online and on newsstands each Wednesday.
