Have you had a chance to watch Stranger Things? It’s all that my friends could talk about so, even though I’m not a huge television watcher- being mainly occupied with my nose in a book- I took the time to watch this series from start to finish. I enjoyed it a lot but it is not for the faint of heart.
Perfect for viewers who like creepy shows, the 1980’2, and science fiction: the program starts in a basement with four young boys playing Dungeons and Dragons. Right away, scary (stranger!) things begin to happen. There’s a storm, a dark bike ride home, and then something terrible occurs.
Description from iMDb: “This thrilling Netflix-original drama stars award-winning actress Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, who lives in a small Indiana town in 1983 — inspired by a time when tales of science fiction captivated audiences. When Joyce’s 12-year-old son, Will, goes missing, she launches a terrifying investigation into his disappearance with local authorities. As they search for answers, they unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries involving secret government experiments, unnerving supernatural forces, and a very unusual little girl.”
More frightening than Doctor Who but less frightening than a true horror series, Stranger Things occupies an interesting space in the middle. And there’s monsters! Terrifying monsters! Have I convinced you yet that you need to watch this show? It was recently picked up for a second season, so, if you love it, you’ve got more to look forward to in the future.
Happy viewing and thanks for reading! ~Heidi
