The holiday season is here, and it’s the perfect time to cuddle up with a good book. Of course, we like to think we know the library pretty well, but with more than 61,000 items in our collection – and more than 9 million across the IHLS system as a whole – we’re always seeing something interesting or unexpected pop up on the holds shelf. Here are a couple of the most fun (or funny) finds we’ve come across this month:
The Last Days of M*A*S*H, by Arlene Arla and Adam Arla. This year marked the 40th anniversay of the acclaimed series, and this intimate look behind the scenes — featuring photographs, commentary, and copies of notes and documents from the people who knew the show best.

Mending Life: A Handbook for Repairing Clothes and Hearts, by Nina Montenegro and Sonya Montenegro. Whether it’s a sweater or a broken heart, who among us doesn’t have at least a little something that needs repairing?

50 Ways to Wear a Scarf, by Lauren Friedman. If the weather is going to be freezing, at least you can be fashionable!

A Place Called Home: Look Inside Houses Around the World, by Kate Baker and Rebecca Green. This lift-the-flap book lets kids travel the globe without leaving the warmth of the couch, and explore the different ways people live around the world.

Finally, if you’re spending time with family this winter, don’t forget about the many physical items available in our collection! Why not gather the kids around the table with a game of Presto Change-o, capture the memories with a SUN 660 Polaroid camera, or check out a Roku and catch up on your favorite shows?
Looking for your next read? These items (and millions more) are available here at the O’Fallon Public Library, or through Interlibrary Loan. Check one out on your online account, via our new SHARE app, or by asking one of your friendly local librarians!
