Anime Fun!

Recently, our anime collection moved upstairs to be with our young adult manga section. In addition to making the jump from downstairs to upstairs, we also added a few new titles to the mix.

Hinamatsuri is a story of an unconventional found family. Nitta, a notable yukaza member, was relaxing in his luxurious apartment one evening when an unexpected visitor crashes through his ceiling. Hina, the apartment destroyer, is a young alien girl with telekinetic powers. Nitta finds himself being forced into a caregiver position over Hina, who is strange to say the least. Can Nitta continue his life of crime and be a good father figure? This anime is certainly goofy, but I hold it near and dear to my heart because of that!

Orange is a story about a 16-year-old girl Naho, and her friends. Naho receives a strange letter from someone who is claiming to be her 27-year-old self to keep an eye on the new transfer student, Naruse. Beware, this is a heartwarming coming of age story, but you will need to keep your tissues close. No spoilers, but I cried like a baby!

In the Ranking of Kings, the people of the kingdom look down on the young Prince Bojji, who is deaf and non-verbal. They call him “The Useless Prince” while mocking his naivety. However, while Bojji may not be physically strong, he is certainly not weak of heart. When a chance encounter with a shadow creature should have left him traumatized, it instead makes him believe that he has found a friend. He starts meeting with Kage, the shadow, regularly, to the point where grumpy Kage finally warms up to him. Kage and Bojji set out on a journey to conquer Bojji’s fears and insecurities. Despite being ridiculed by nearly everyone he has known, Bojji still strives to be the best king he can possibly be.

Do you remember the hit series, Hannah Montana? Hannah lived a double life, as a normal girl from Tennessee, and as a pop star sensation. Himouto! Umaru-Chan is a story of a girl who is also living a double life…but one that isn’t as glamorous. At school Umaru is popular, she has great grades, is well mannered, bubbly, and seems like she can do any task with ease. But, as soon as Umaru gets home, her mask comes off. Umaru immediately dives into her pajamas, binge watches her shows, pigs out on junk food, and plays violent video games. Her two lives are drastically different, so try as she might, Umaru finds herself struggling to keep her second life a secret.

There are so many different stories you can find here at the library. If the anime section is unexplored territory for you, I’d encourage you to try it out. An amazing variety of characters, journeys, and worlds to explore is waiting for you. If you’d like recommendations, or don’t know where to start, I’d be happy to help! And if you have a favorite series you’d like to see in the library, please let us know!
