Though Summer Reading is on the minds of many who visit the library during June, there’s so much more to see and explore! From displays to donation drives and digital applications, the library has experiences and resources catered to almost every need.
For example, during the month of June, the O’Fallon Public Library is hosting a food drive for the O’Fallon Community Food Pantry. We are collecting non-perishable and canned goods from June 1 through 30.
The table for the donations is set up in the first floor main area of the library near the vending machines.
And while you’re clearing out your pantry for a good cause, please consider freshening up your book shelves by donating your old books, magazines, puzzles and more to the Friends of the O’Fallon Public Library. They have a donation cart on the main floor near the elevators.
Enjoy learning about local history at the History Portal Display located upstairs – a partnership between the library and the O’Fallon Historical Society.
The current display is all about 101 West State Street. The building has made the transition from a bank, to the library and now to the museum of the O’Fallon Historical Society.
If your curiosity is peaked by the display, please visit the O’Fallon Historical Society Museum at 101 West State Street. It is home to thousands of items of local history.
Also, in the main area of the library, there’s a display celebrating Pride Month. One of O’Fallon’s librarians, Katie, has put together a curated selection of books. You can learn about the Stonewall Riots while you look at the items.
In case you didn’t know: the Stonewall Riots were a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.
If you don’t have time to physically visit the library, that’s not a problem either. There are dozens of digital resources you can use for free through the O’Fallon Public Library.
One of these applications is Flipster, which allows you to enjoy your favorite magazines anytime, anywhere, any device. The library has recently added more titles for you to enjoy from Flipster including Time, Rolling Stone, Better Homes and Gardens, and Women’s Health.
Have you tried another application through the library called CreativeBug, an inspirational resource for DIY, crafters and makers? It has thousands of award-winning art & craft video classes taught by recognized design experts and artists.
Did I mention this is all free? Here’s hoping we’ll see you soon at the library.
