Shawnna, our cataloger, offers a few video game recommendations from our wide collection. Whether you’re looking for something for yourself or for the kids, Shawnna’s insights make choosing a bit easier!

It’s too hot to go outside — here are some video games to try out instead.

Nexomon Extinction

Nexomon Extinction is a Pokémon knockoff. It has the same concept with a focus on capturing and “taming” monsters. But it also has a sense of humor, often breaking the fourth wall and poking fun of itself and the games it imitates. Since the game is made by a small studio, it lacks the refinement and scale of a Pokémon game, but still delivers satisfying content. The game is rated E10+ and has nothing particularly objectionable but I think an older audience is more likely to appreciate its humor.

Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics

This one is great for playing with friends and family. Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics features different board games, card games, and sports games from around the world. Each game has a tutorial and various difficulty levels to help you learn how to play. There’s something fun about setting up an actual, physical board game and all its pieces – but this way you have access to more games than you would probably care to keep and there’s no clean up!

Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise

In Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise you perform boxing style workouts set to popular music. There are 9 different instructors to choose from and you can create custom workouts to meet your exercise needs. There’s also a 2 player mode so you can exercise with a friend or family member. I was sore the first two days after trying this. I didn’t even choose an intense difficulty! I am motivated by silly and shallow things, so the feature that really kept me coming back to this game was the ability to customize and dress up the instructors with outfits earned by completing in-game achievements and consecutive days of play.

Miitopia

This is a Switch remake of the 3DS version (we own both versions!). I loved this game back on the 3DS so I was excited to see a remake for the Switch. The new version adds really cool customization options, a horse companion, and a few other extras. Customize your Mii character and companions (make your family and friends or steal an awesome look-a-like from the community) and set out on a silly adventure to stop the face-stealing Dark Lord.

Stay cool, enjoy!
