Shawnna and her buddy, Zero who keeps her company while she’s gaming

Welcome again to Third Thursday Treasures! This is where we give OFPL staff members to write about some of their favorite books. This month, our cataloger Shawnna M. reminds us that we have more than just books. We have lots of things to satisfy creative energies. Thank you,  Shawnna.

Did you know that the library carries video games? For today’s Third Thursday Staff Recommendation, I would like to highlight two games in our collection – Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Monster Hunter World.

Dragon Quest Builders 2

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is an action rpg with block building and crafting set in the world of Dragon Quest with character designs by Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball series). You do not have to be familiar with the Dragon Quest series to enjoy this charming game — but if you are a fan, you will love the references and Easter eggs! I was very excited to get this game. I played the first one and loved it. This second title adds basic character customization, multiplayer, and quality of life improvements such as new building tools, sprinting, and gliding. While the game has an enjoyable single player story experience, the main draws are exploring, crafting, and building your own structures. If you love building and creating (and maybe destroying too!) then I highly recommend this title.

I created a little library as soon as I had the materials to do so!

Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter World is an action rpg where the player takes on the role of a hunter with the goal of taking down or capturing monsters. Use the parts you gather to craft better gear and take on stronger monsters. I have been playing Monster Hunter games since Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii. Each new title brings improvements but Monster Hunter World overhauls the series to make it more approachable for new players with improved cooperative play, menus and interfaces that are more intuitive, helpful tutorials, and more life-like environments and monsters. The story campaign is more developed than in previous titles, but the main appeal still centers on grinding for parts for your gear. Hunt alone with your adorable and trusty Palico sidekick or jump online and play with your friends or like-minded strangers!
