Each month we invite patrons to Meet the Staff. For August, we shine the spotlight on graphic-novel fan Adam Powers, a young man with boundless enthusiasm for helping patrons from his post at the Circulation Desk.

This September marks my two year anniversary working at the O’Fallon Public Library and I must say that it has been a fantastic ride. I have had the honor of learning so much about the various patrons who visit every day that it is only fitting that I share a bit about myself.

Being a part of a Navy family, I have had the opportunity to live in so many different places. From the northern edge of the country, both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, and even a bit of travel to lands abroad. Through my travels, I have meAdamt a wide assortment of amazing and wondrous people as well as experienced a full spectrum of cultures and beliefs.

In 2016 I graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in history. Ever since I was a child, I have had the dream to travel the world in order to learn about the culture and history unique to each part of the globe. Learning about the past and those events now influence modern society in people’s everyday lives is so fascinating that it’s hard not to keep searching for more to read about.

Speaking of reading, I enjoy a great variety of genres, but the ones that stick out are easily fantasy adventures, mystery, and if you know anything about me then you know about my love for nice a comic book. Out of the many adventure novels that I have read, T. H. White’s Once and Future King is a must read and if you have any interest in Arthurian legend then this is a book for you. When talking about mystery, the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his detective, Sherlock Holmes, should come to mind and is easily worth reading through the entire collection. I cannot describe how difficult it is to pick a favorite saga from my favorite hero of all time, Spider-Man, but if I must then it would most likely be the Spider Island arc.

Other hobbies of mine includes playing video games, hiking, and cooking. I play mostly every genre of video game minus First-Person shooters. Some of my absolute favorites include titles from the Tales series, Fire Emblem series, and The Witcher series.

While I lived in California the Yosemite National Forest was about an hour’s drive from where I went to college so I had the opportunity to travel to one of the greatest hiking trails in the country for a days’ worth of fun.

I really like to learn and experiment with new dishes and try new things that I read from various cookbooks (just sad that they never turnout as well the pictures) and then cook them for my friends and family.

Working at the O’Fallon Public Library has been a fantastic experience over the course of these two years and I am looking forward to meeting all of the new patrons who will come to visit us. And if you ever need help finding a nice comic to read, you know who to go to.
