OF WeeklyLibrary Director Molly Scanlan wrote this week’s column in the O’Fallon Weekly and assured readers that “O’Fallon has some great future ‘spy’ potentials.”  This is due to the masterful International Spy Training that the kids enjoyed last Friday.  The budding secret agents “…tested their agility skills with an obstacle course and tried to outwit the ‘maze.’  Bomb (balloon) detonating skills were also tested and prizes awarded.” penguin

This was just one of the many activities that are part of the Summer Reading Program.  The family-friendly finale is on Friday, July 13, 6:30 pm until 8 pm, Molly said.  Join us at the Library for the popular Book Walk; it’s like a cake walk but you win books and other prizes.

“The Chick-fil-A cow will make an appearance and will be handing out cookies,”  Molly said. “Everyone in the family can receive a book!  Prizes will also be awarded.”Summper Smash Bros

Also on Friday, July 13, there is another Super Smash Bros. Wii U Tournament 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm in the community room.  Teens are encouraged to bring their own Game Cube controllers (adapter will be provided), Wii U remotes will also be provided. After the tournament ends, we will have free play. The tournament begins at 12:30 sharp, but players are welcome to come and go during free play.

For adults who may want or need some motivation and help planning healthy meals, we have a Healthy Meal Planning workshop, Sunday, July 8, 2-3:30 pm.  Molly said, let an expert guide you and build a meal plan that works for you or your family. Participants will be given handouts and steps on how to create a meal plan and grocery list to use.  You can bring cookbooks and recipes from home, or use the ones from the library. After the workshop is over, you will be able to buy your food for the week and be ready to go! You can register here. Spice Island

Once you start cooking more meals, then come back to the Library, Thursday, July 12, at 6 pm and learn how to use the right spices to make your meals more tempting, Molly said.  In Spice Island, Lacy Dueterhaus will talk about several commonly used spices, the origin of spices, uncover the best combinations to use, and share delicious spice pairings. With their rich aromas and worldly flavors, spices have a way of transporting ordinary ingredients into something magical.

For more information on these and the many other events at the Library, check out our calendar.  You can enjoy “Library News & Notes” each Wednesday in the O’Fallon Weekly.
