This marks the debut column by our new Adult Services Manager, Renny McBride, for the O’Fallon Weekly. As many of you know, she replaced Ryan Johnson who is now the Assistant Director.
One of Renny’s favorite activities in working in Adult Services at OFPL and at the Bloomington and the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Libraries is planning events for adults. Renny wrote that she aims to broaden the offerings here to include “lectures and maybe some hands-on activities.” In addition, she will schedule some inviting events for teens as well. You can stay informed by signing up for our newsletter at the bottom of our homepage or checking the calendar on our website.
Another activity Renny is excited about is taking over the OFPL Instagram account. She said to be sure and click here to see some of the creative pics she has taken as well as some blasts from the past. Please comment, like, and share these as well as our Facebook posts. Renny added, that we’d love for you to answer some of the questions we pose from time to time in our FB posts.
In August, there are two events for those interested in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. If you’re new to Essential Oils, Joya Draper will discuss the history, basic remedies, and uses of these oils on August 9, at 6:30 PM. Registration is not required, but you can learn more and request a reminder email here.
On Tuesday, August 15, also at 6:30, Kathi Sheppard, a professional skin care consultant and personal trainer, will present Healthy Habits: Tips for Great Looking Skin and a Healthy Body. Registration is recommended and free samples will be provided for those who register. As always, events are free and open to the public.
The most wonderful time of the year is nigh, Back-to-School! If your child has not completed the OTHS Summer Reading Program, we still have titles on the shelf and time to request books that are out. Remember, many of these selections are available as an ebook or audiobook.
Finally, Renny offers a big thanks to all the children, teens, and adults who participated in our Summer Reading Program. “We’ve had a lot of fun the past two months, but I know I’m looking forward to pumpkin spice flavored everything and some cooler temperatures!”
Me too, Renny, me too!
