“A beautiful and distinguished family. A private island. A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy. A group of four friends–the Liars–whose friendship turns destructive. A revolution. An accident. A secret. Lies upon lies. True love. The truth.”
We Were Liars, E. Lockhart’s latest YA novel, came out May of last year and is still being talked about. And here’s the thing–this review is going to be short. Really short. Why? Because the less you know about this book, the better.
Honestly, the blurb above is all I can give away. But I will say this–I’m usually not a fan of young adult literature, and I loved this. I honestly couldn’t put it down. A coworker and I finished it in a day. It’s that good.
I know we usually want more to go off of before we commit to a book, but just know this one has flawed characters (seriously, you’ll never know who to trust), poetic writing, and a mind-blowing conclusion. Trust me.
After you read it, as the book suggests, if anyone asks how it ends… just lie.
Thanks for reading. -Autumn
