If you see a spirit, one of two things is true–he is your true love, or you are his killer.

Blue Sargent, the protagonist, has been holding a heavy prophesy on her shoulders: she will kill her true love with a kiss.  When she sees Gansey, a student at the local private school, her limited but powerful psychic powers tell her that he will die within the year; her heart, though, tells her to get involved anyway.  There’s something about him that she’s inexplicably drawn to, and the possibility of love being stronger than any mystic force is too strong to resist.

This novel comes from #1 New York Times bestselling and acclaimed author Maggie Stiefvater, and even though it came out over three years ago, it’s still big news.  The first in the Raven Cycle trilogy, this novel mixes fantasy, romance, and mystery in a concoction that leaves the reader craving more.  The book is considered best for a young adult audience, but readers of all ages have found themselves drawn into the elaborate and exciting world of The Raven Boys.

“She wasn’t interested in telling other people’s futures.  She was interested in going out and finding her own.”

This book is more leisurely-paced than most fantasies, meaning the characters can be explored at a deeper level.  If you love the action promised of supernatural powers and the forbidden love of teen romance, give this one a shot.
