Welcome to Owlfred’s Corner!
Each month, Owlfred gets the scoop on one of our incredible library staff members with a fun Q & A session. From coffee vs. tea debates to favorite books and surprising discoveries, this monthly feature is all about getting to know the people who make OFPL such a special place.
Get comfy and meet our spotlighted staff member!
Meet Jordan! – the Youth Services Lead in OFPL’s Children’s Department. They are the kind of librarian who can help kids find their next favorite book one minute and geek out over the latest game or movie the next. A night owl with a love of fiction, Jordan thrives on exploring new stories, connecting with young readers, and making the library a place where curiosity and fun go hand in hand.
Coffee or tea? Tea, I often start my day with an earl grey or chai and end it with a chamomile.
Morning person or night owl? Night owl, my brain doesn’t believe in mornings unless absolutely necessary.
Fiction or nonfiction? Fiction, I love getting lost in worlds where anything can happen.
eBook or paperback? I adore the ease of eBooks, but until my devices can pump out that new book smell, paperback is my go-to.
What’s your favorite part of working at OFPL? The staff and patrons make each day interesting and exciting. Plus, having access to just about anything I can think of is a huge bonus.
If given the choice, would you prefer to spend a day with your favorite author or your favorite fictional character, and who would that author or character be? I would prefer to spend a day with my favorite fictional character Matilda Wormwood. I think we’d have a great time exploring different ideas, talking about books, and maybe she could teach me a few telekinetic tricks.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned while working at OFPL? How fast technology and the way we consume media changes. Watching those shifts happen has really shown me how important it is for libraries to adapt to continue meeting their communities’ needs.
If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be? The ability to comprehend any language. Language can carry history, emotion, and perspective. I’d love to be able to connect with many more narratives, ideas, and experiences through conversation and literature.
What’s your go-to activity or hobby when you’re not at the library? Trying out a new game or movie. I love stories in all forms, especially ones that allow you to immerse yourself and discover something new.
Thank you for joining us in Owlfred’s Corner! We hope you enjoyed getting to know Jordan and discovering the unique talents and interests they bring to OFPL. Stay tuned for next month’s feature as we continue to highlight the amazing people who make our library such a welcoming and inspiring place to be.
