Welcome to Owlfred’s Corner!
Each month, Owlfred gets the scoop on one of our incredible library staff members with a fun Q & A session. From coffee vs. tea debates to favorite books and surprising discoveries, this monthly feature is all about getting to know the people who make OFPL such a special place.
Get comfy and meet our spotlighted staff member!
Meet Ashley! For the past three years, she’s been a friendly and fun presence in Circulation — always ready with a book recommendation, a smile, and maybe even a Coke Zero in hand. While we’ll miss her at the front desk, Ashley is moving into Youth Services where her love of stories, humor, and welcoming spirit will shine even brighter. We know she’ll do an amazing job connecting with kids, teens, and families, and we can’t wait to see the creativity she brings to her new role!
Coffee or tea? Tea — though the real answer is Coke Zero.
Morning person or night owl? Night owl… though sometimes I’m not sure I’m either. More like a mid-afternoon squirrel.
Fiction or nonfiction? Definitely fiction!
eBook or paperback? Mostly eBooks, but honestly, I’ll read them all.
What’s your favorite part of working at OFPL? The people — both the staff and the patrons.
If given the choice, would you prefer to spend a day with your favorite author or your favorite fictional character, and who would that author or character be? I can’t pick just one, so I’ll go with Grady Hendrix. I saw him at an author event once and he was absolutely hilarious
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned while working at OFPL? How many places still use fax machines.
If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be? Learning languages. I took two years of Spanish in high school, but only remember the basics. It’s tough to retain when you’re not using it regularly.
What’s your go-to activity or hobby when you’re not at the library? Most often, you’ll find me on my porch reading a book on my phone.
Thank you for joining us in Owlfred’s Corner! We hope you enjoyed getting to know Ashley and discovering the unique talents and interests she brings to OFPL. Stay tuned for next month’s feature as we continue to highlight the amazing people who make our library such a welcoming and inspiring place to be.
