Welcome to Owlfred’s Corner!
Each month, Owlfred gets the scoop on one of our incredible library staff members with a fun Q & A session. From coffee vs. tea debates to favorite books and surprising discoveries, this monthly feature is all about getting to know the people who make OFPL such a special place.

Get comfy and meet our spotlighted staff member!

Meet McKayla, one of the friendly faces you’ll find at OFPL! Whether she’s helping a patron, chatting with coworkers, or working behind the scenes, McKayla brings warmth, curiosity, and creativity to everything she does. A lover of fantasy, late nights, and iced lattes, she’s always ready to learn something new and dive into a good book—or a cross-stitch project. Let’s get to know her a little better!

Coffee or tea? I can’t go a single morning without an iced latte, so coffee 100%.

Morning person or night owl? I’m definitely a night owl. I love getting into my pajamas, lighting a candle, and unwinding with my hobbies late into the night.

Fiction or nonfiction? I dabble in nonfiction, but fiction—fantasy, in particular—tends to be my go-to.

eBook or paperback? Ebooks are convenient, but I prefer the more immersive feel of paperbacks. When I read, I typically want to get away from technology completely!

What’s your favorite part of working at OFPL? My favorite part about working at OFPL is the staff. I am surrounded by supportive, kind, and knowledgeable individuals whom I feel I’ve already learned so much from.

If given the choice, would you prefer to spend a day with your favorite author or your favorite fictional character, and who would that author or character be? I would choose to spend a day with my favorite fictional character, Luke Skywalker. Unlike some of my other favorite characters, I’d feel safe with him!

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned while working at OFPL? The most surprising thing I’ve learned here is that we have telescopes available for patrons to checkout. How cool!

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be? I would want to master the art of learning languages. In high school, I took two years of Spanish, but I only remember the basics now. I find it difficult to retain information if I’m not using/studying it regularly.

What’s your go-to activity or hobby when you’re not at the library? Outside of reading, I spend a lot of time listening to music while I cross-stitch.

Thank you for joining us in Owlfred’s Corner! We hope you enjoyed getting to know McKayla and discovering the unique talents and interests she brings to OFPL. Stay tuned for next month’s feature as we continue to highlight the amazing people who make our library such a welcoming and inspiring place to be.
