Welcome to Owlfred’s Corner!
Each month, Owlfred gets the scoop on one of our incredible library staff members with a fun Q & A session. From coffee vs. tea debates to favorite books and surprising discoveries, this monthly feature is all about getting to know the people who make OFPL such a special place.

Get comfy and meet our spotlighted staff member!

Meet Sam, one of our fantastic pages here at OFPL! Whether she’s checking in returns (and secretly growing her TBR pile) or helping discover all the cool non-book items you can check out, Sam brings a love of stories and a warm curiosity to everything she does. A night owl at heart, she’s most likely to be found reading manga or cozy gaming well past midnight—with a cup of tea in hand, of course. Keep reading to learn more about Sam’s favorite books. Next time you’re at the library, don’t hesitate to say hello if you see her around!

Coffee or tea? Tea! I’ve actually become a tea lover more recently, since cutting soda from my diet.

Morning person or night owl? Night owl, 1000%! There’s just something about staying up past midnight reading or binge-watching a show.

Fiction or nonfiction? Fiction, for sure! Though I do enjoy the occasional non-fiction—especially a good autobiography.

eBook or paperback? I’m always reading both formats—I usually have at least one e-book checked out and several physical books on the go.

What’s your favorite part of working at OFPL? I love seeing all the new books come in and finding out what our patrons are enjoying! I add so many titles to my TBR while checking in returns!

If given the choice, would you prefer to spend a day with your favorite author or your favorite fictional character, and who would that author or character be? I’d definitely choose to spend the day with my favorite fictional character. Funny enough, when I was interviewing for OFPL, they asked, ‘What fictional character do you most identify with?’—and in that moment, I completely blanked on every book character ever… except Bella Swan, the teenage vampire lover herself. So, I’d spend the day with Bella—because honestly, I have so many questions!

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned while working at OFPL? I was amazed to learn about all the incredible resources we offer beyond physical books! I thought it was so cool that you can check out things like Nooks, CD players, ukuleles, board games, and more!

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be? Cooking! I’m terrible at it, but I’d love to be a master so I could whip up gourmet meals instead of relying on microwave dinners!

What’s your go-to activity or hobby when you’re not at the library? Believe it or not, my go-to hobby is reading! I’m a big fan of graphic novels and manga. I also love cozy gaming—Disney Dreamlight Valley and My Time at Sandrock are my current favorites!

Thank you for joining us in Owlfred’s Corner! We hope you enjoyed getting to know Sam and discovering the unique talents and interests she brings to OFPL. Stay tuned for next month’s feature as we continue to highlight the amazing people who make our library such a welcoming and inspiring place. See you next time!
