Get comfy and meet our spotlighted staff member!

Join us in celebrating Sharon, a friendly and familiar face in our Circulation Department! With her warm Southern accent and welcoming spirit, she’s never met a stranger—only new friends! Sharon has a true gift for helping patrons and offering top-notch reading recommendations. Whether you need assistance or a great book suggestion, she’s always happy to help!

Coffee or tea? Coffee in the morning, iced tea during the day.

Morning person or night owl? I’m a bit of a night owl. I like to watch movies or television shows when the house is quiet.

Fiction or nonfiction? Both ~ but I’m especially fond of historical fiction!

eBook or paperback? Paperback ~ there’s just something about the feel and smell of a book!

What’s your favorite part of working at OFPL? I enjoy getting to know our patrons. It is fun listening to their stories. As I learn about what they like to read, it is nice to be able to introduce them to new authors or genres I think they might like. It is always a thrill when they come back and ask me for more recommendations. It lets me know I hit the mark.

If given the choice, would you prefer to spend a day with your favorite author or your favorite fictional character, and who would that author or character be? In the past, I would have said favorite character…but, Dolly Parton recently wrote a book. While she isn’t my “favorite author,” I think I would enjoy spending a day with her.  I grew up near the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, and have always felt like we would have a lot to chat about. I love a good storyteller ~ and I suspect she has some great stories! Plus, I just think she is a fun lady!

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned while working at OFPL? I’ve learned that a great group of dedicated volunteers can make such a big difference. The Friends of the Library raise money for us throughout the year, which allows us to purchase some nice things for our library and for our programs. They also work to help us keep our books in good repair. Their tireless, behind-the-scenes efforts make a huge difference in so many ways. I’m impressed by what their efforts accomplish for our library.

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be? I would love to learn to play the dulcimer. I received one as a gift a couple of years ago, but have not had a lot of time to master the skill!

What’s your go-to activity or hobby when you’re not at the library? Reading. I will read anywhere, but especially like to sit outside and read when the weather is nice. I also enjoy taking car rides on back roads, with no particular destination in mind.

Thank you for joining us in Owlfred’s Corner! We hope you enjoyed getting to know Sharon and discovering the unique talents and interests she brings to OFPL. Stay tuned for next month’s feature as we continue to highlight the amazing people who make our library such a welcoming and inspiring place. See you next time!
