If you’ve made the trek to the second floor (adult & young adult fiction and non-fiction, audiobooks, and biographies) any time in the last eight years or so, you may have notice our storied stairs. Painted by a local artist in 2015, the risers featured spines of classic books like The Book Thief, Speak, Persepolis, Watership Down and numerous others.

As beloved as the stair paintings were, almost a decade of footsteps had rendered them much less readable. It was time for a fresh start. Fortunately, the people at Art Gecko and Metro East Signs were up for the challenge. Several designs were presented, and we are thrilled with the version that ended up on the stairs.
“The colors really pop against a black and white background, featuring books laid open. I especially like the rings of color near the bottom of the stairs. With the black circle in the middle, I’m reminded of an eye; open, reading, exploring,” said Library Director Ryan Johnson.

That’s life in a library. We’ll miss our old stories, but remember them fondly, and always be excited to see what’s unfolding next.
