Have you ever heard of an earworm? It’s not some kind of little bug that wriggles in your ear, but instead is a little song that wriggles inside your brain. Sometimes when I’m wandering through the library during the course of my day, I see something that triggers a memory of a song I haven’t thought of in a long time. Then that song is stuck in my head all day! Since misery loves company, I’ve made a roundup of some of the most recent earworms I’ve found.

“We Could Be Heroes” by Mike Chen makes me think of “Heroes” by David Bowie.

“Never Ever Getting Back Together” by Sophie Gonzales is obviously “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” by Taylor Swift (I have a teen daughter. I’m getting to know Taylor very well.).

“The Bad Guys” by Aaron Blabey makes me sing “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish.

“Madly, Deeply: the Diaries of Alan Rickman” by Alan Rickman makes me sing the quintessential late 90’s school dance song, “Truly, Madly, Deeply” by Savage Garden.

“All My Rage” by Sabaa Tahir makes me think of “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” by The Smashing Pumpkins.

Sometimes, they’re pretty straight forward like “Smells Like Teen Titans Spirit” making me sing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana.

Sometimes, they’re a little more vague like “Monkey on the Run” by Leo Timmers and “Take It On the Run” by REO Speedwagon.

And sometimes I get the words wrong, but the tune stays there like with “Hanging Out: The Radical Power of Killing Time” by Sheila Liming making me think of “Doin’ Time” by Sublime.

“That’s Not My Name!” by Anoosha Syed and “That’s Not My Name” by The Ting Tings

And sometimes the “L” section of the hold shelf makes me think of this:

I hope you’ve enjoyed the library DJing your thoughts for the day!
