Welcome to the 3rd Annual Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) Library crawl! The free event runs from September 27 to October 17, 2021.

We’re very pleased to announce that O’Fallon Public Library is participating in this year’s event. In total, there are 85 libraries from IHLS sharing in the joy of the 2021 Library Crawl.

How does it work? Stop by the library and pick up an Official Passport – 2021 Library Crawl. The passports are behind the main circulation desk near the front entrance.

When you visit one of the libraries in the passport, make sure to get a stamp. When you get five stamps, return your passport to O’Fallon Public Library to be entered in a drawing for a prize- a gift bag of library-related goodies. (Though we gladly welcome all library crawlers, only O’Fallon patrons are eligible for the prize drawing.)

A Brief History of the Event: The first Library Crawl was organized at Bethalto Public Library as an effort to encourage their library patrons to visit other local libraries and see all of the wonderful library resources that are available in Illinois.

The Illinois Heartland Library System libraries honor cards from other library members, which means you have access to most services and items you see at the other libraries.

What is the Illinois Heartland Library System? The IHLS has 521 member libraries and serves patrons across 28,141 square miles. Their mission is “to support their member libraries of all types in providing quality library services.”

And they deliver on that promise. Each year delivery vans from IHLS travel over one million miles in order to distribute approximately eight million (million!!) items to the libraries in the system for their patrons.

P.S. Organizers of the event remind all participants that Illinois currently requires masks to be worn indoors in public settings. Be safe and happy crawling!
